Brexit stands for British Exit. It pertains to the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union following the referendum in 2016 to leave the EU. It took almost four years for the British to exit from the European Union since the referendum took place. Eventually, it withdrew from the European Union at 11 PM GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) on 31 January 2020 and entered into the transition period that would be concluded on 31 December 2020.
Referendum
51.9 % voted to leave the European Union in the referendum held on June 23, 2016. Following this, the Government of the UK announced the exit from the EU, and the withdrawal process is underway. The outcome of this referendum led to the resignation of the then prime minister David Cameroon, who supported Britain to remain in the EU.
