During a regime survey of bighorn sheep last month in the Red Rock County of Utah, a 10-12 feet tall three-sided metal monolith was tracked down by the US state’s wildlife agency at the base of a canyon. To investigate this, when the helicopter team set foot on the base of the canyon, they learned that there was no proper corroboration or augury of its arrival. Furthermore, the fact that this three-sided metal monolith was installed into the rocky canyon floor without any prior knowledge has bemused the minds of the investigative team.
On the 23rd of November, an official statement was released by the Utah department for public safety which promulgated that this might be an art installation by the ‘new wave artist” or a possible prank by a “2001: Space Odyssey Fan”. The reference has been given to a film by Stanley Kubrik, a science fiction film which was released in the year 1968. Co-Authored by Arthur C Clarke, this film projected a large black monolith which appears mysteriously amongst a tribe of hominids and being extraterrestrial, influences the furtherance of human evolution.
As declared by the office of the Federal Bureau of Land Management’s Utah, the monolith has been obliterated by an unknown source on the 27th of November and has left a mark on the place where it stood. Additionally, on the 30th of November, a new monolith has been found on the Batca Doamnei Hills Romania. Unlike the monolith in Utah, the monolith in Romania is covered in looping scrawls.
Popular Theories Brewing Behind The Monoliths Of Utah, California, & Romania
Right now, the most popular theory doing rounds about the monolith is of its extraterrestrial origins. Some say this half-jokingly, however, some are pretty serious about this theory. The reference is being taken from the film by Kubrick – 2001: Space Odyssey Fan.
Another credible and more likely to be a fact theory is of its art origin. Theories proclaim that these are the work of art which has been instilled due to the failure of the Land Art Movement. This movement had taken birth between the 1960s and 1970s.
This movement was directed towards the rejection of using materials of the earth such as rocks, soil and stones in the name of art. Typically, these artworks were made in remote places. If we talk about famous artworks like these, one such striking incident reminds us of Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty, a colossal and monstrous chisel made by rocks and salt crystals, in the Great Salt Lake of Utah.
There is a theory which claims that this monolith might be a work of art by John McCraken, who is a renowned sculptor with immense love for science fiction. The New York Times report has delineated that this might be an art by the artist himself, before his death in 2011 or possibly an imitation, sculpted by a fan. However, stating facts, the higher authorities have stated that the monolith lacks finesse and hence, it does not look like art but more like a prank.
Hoax Or Prank:
The last theory that has received tremendous support is of this monolith being a mere prank. This might be along the lines of the mysterious appearance of the crop circles in the fields of Wiltshire, England back in the year 1970s. This incident was marked globally as a sign of extraterrestrial activity on earth.
In explanation to this incident, scientists proclaimed it to be an occurrence due to changing wind patterns causing geometrical designs on the field. On the contrary, conspiracy theorists believed it to be a form of communication from the aliens. As of now, no revelations have been made behind the origin of these monoliths partnered by its mysterious appearances and disappearances in random places. The investigation is still on and it seems more like a work of art of a prank. However, the monolith remains a mystery and we continue to question the truth behind its sudden appearance and disappearances.
