Latest Update(May 31): The rocket ship (SpaceX) thundered away from Earth and lifted off successfully!
Update(May 28): The launch is scrubbed due to bad weather conditions and is rescheduled to be at 3:22 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 30, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
On May 27, 2020 (now, Saturday, May 30) history will be made in the United States (US) in the form of its first crewed (with humans onboard) launch into space on a mission called Demo-2 after nearly ten years!
The purpose of this mission is to show SpaceX’s ability to ferry astronauts to the space station and back safely.
How did it all begin?
Before this mission, US soil had hosted the crewed launch of the shuttle Atlantis on July 8, 2011. After that, NASA has been depending on Russia’s space program to transport crew for missions lasting for months together on-board the International Space Station (ISS). Can we watch it happen? Absolutely!
The live streams of the event will be available on the SpaceX and NASA websites and their Youtube channels.
This is a very important mission for Elon Musk’s company since it can affect its future prospects of carrying out more trips to ISS. If it’s successfully carried out, more such commercial space companies can hope to conduct such crewed missions.
