Hand sanitizers are flooding the market in the wake of COVID-19. People tend to buy sanitizer without verifying the details of it. It’s necessary to recognise a good sanitizer from the duplicate ones.
Sanitizers are categorised into Alcohol-based sanitizers and Non-Alcohol based sanitizers. It is better to avoid buying non-alcoholic sanitizers because they don’t disinfect the hands.
According to the World Health Organisation, a sanitizer made up of ethyl alcohol (ethanol) or isopropyl alcohol should be used for sanitising hands. Sanitizers made up of other alcohols should not be used as they are harmful to the hands and a good sanitiser contains at least 60% of alcohol.
Moreover, one should be careful in using alcohol-based sanitizers as it is highly flammable, and it can also cause poisoning if swallowed.
