What is the difference between clinic and hospital?

A clinic is a health care centre where patients who are less sick or who come for a routine check-up are treated. Patients do not stay overnight at clinics (and called as outpatients) and leave the clinic after consultation. Nowadays, specialist doctors also have clinics but only for diagnosis and treatment but not for surgeries and overnight stay.

A hospital is a medical centre larger than the clinic and provides inpatient facility (allows patients for overnight stay) and conducts surgeries.
