Earlier, when many pharmaceutical formulations were not available, the licensed people for selling medicines prepared different medicines based on the formulation against the prescription.

Hence, the phrase “chemist and druggist ” used on the signboards of the medical shops under “Drugs and Cosmetics Rules”.

Under the new rules, every medical store should replace the phrase “chemist and druggist” with “Pharmacy”. Because they are just selling the medicines and formulations that are being done by pharmaceutical companies, unlike before. Moreover, the word “pharmacy” is being used almost everywhere in the world. And the usage of that word brings uniformity.
